Strawberry "Tsaritsa" from the originator of VSTISP is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Central region and is a promising strawberry variety with an average ripening period. The description of the variety given by the originator implies such characteristics as a universal direction of use and a high tasting score of just under five points.

Variety Description and Features

Garden strawberry called "Queen" stably forms mid-growth, semi-spreading, with a strong pubescence of the plant. Leaves of large sizes, pronounced green color, with a smooth surface and weak indicators of ribbing. The surface is concave, dull, with blunt teeth. The flowers are large, white, without petal torsion. Flower stalks, average in height, are located slightly below the leaves. Inflorescences are compact and relatively small-flowered.

The berry is medium in size, weighing no more than 11-12 g, regular conical shape, without the presence of a neck. The surface of the berry is dark red, with a pronounced sheen. Fully ripened red flesh, dense texture, with good juiciness, sweet and sour taste, with a slight aroma.

Strawberry "Queen": features of the variety

The average yield indicators recorded as a result of varietal tests in our country are about 100-128 kg / ha. Resistance to the most common insect pests and major diseases is not lower than the level of the main standard varieties. Indicators of drought resistance and heat resistance are quite high, and frost resistance is average.

Spring work

Strawberry bushes “Tsaritsa” must be put in order in the early spring, immediately after the snow melts:

  • removal from strawberry landings of the mulching layer that has not decayed during the winter period;
  • dressing of soil and sides of ridges with strawberry plantings;
  • fertilizing bushes of garden strawberries with full mineral fertilizers or high-quality organic matter;
  • for mineral dressing, it is recommended to use 1 tbsp. l ammonium sulfate and 400 ml of mullein, diluted in 10 liters of water or 1 tbsp. l nitroammophoski per 10 l of water;

  • as a highly effective top dressing of organic origin, it is desirable to use a solution based on mullein or manure, as well as herbal or nettle infusions;
  • carrying out preventive measures against strawberry damage by diseases and pests with the help of chemical insectofungicides or biological products;
  • treatment options for strawberry bushes “Taurus” or “Caesar” can be considered as protection options, the use of “Fitoverma” and “Acrofit” on berry crops has a good effect;
  • mulching strawberry ridges with organic matter, which is most often used straw, sawdust or hay.

If the spring period is characterized by high temperature and drought, then without fail after removing all dry or frost-damaged leaves, water-charging irrigation and subsequent surface loosening of the soil are carried out.

Rules for preparing for winter

The correct and timely preparation of the Tsaritsa strawberries for the winter period will determine the yield and quality of the berry in the next vegetative season. Berry culture is relatively unpretentious, but responsive to a number of activities:

  • after the final harvest, high-quality weeding and shallow loosening of the soil between the rows of berry culture;
  • if necessary, add under the berry bushes of fertile soil, controlling the location of the core of the plant;
  • compulsory pruning and removal of all old and diseased leaves from berry bushes;
  • fertilizing with mineral and organic fertilizers can be replaced by adding a solution based on ordinary wood ash under the berry culture.

Even when growing sufficiently winter-hardy and frost-resistant varieties, it is advisable to warm berry plantings in late autumn. For this purpose, it is recommended to use dry straw, which, if necessary, can be replaced with fallen leaves, spruce branches or stalks of corn. A good result can be obtained by using a covering material in the form of lutrasil or spunbond.

Tips and reviews of gardeners

According to numerous reviews by gardeners, as well as the opinion of experienced specialists, for a variety of garden strawberries called "Queen" is characterized by unpretentiousness and excellent adaptation to various cultivation conditions. The variety has proven itself not only in the home gardening of our country, but also shows excellent yield and transportability when grown by small farms.

The greatest threat to berry plantings of this variety is the larval stage of the May beetle and wireworm. In order to protect the garden culture from damage, gardeners advise pre-planting soil treatment in the area with ammonia water. Strawberry plants “Tsaritsa” have a fairly compact and convenient form for growing on a personal plot, so the recommended optimal distance between berry bushes can be no more than 20 cm.

How to plant wild strawberries

When growing this berry culture in regions with snowy winters and a high level of snow cover, plants very easily tolerate a decrease in temperature to -25-40 ° C. However, when cultivated in areas with insufficient snow cover, lowering the temperature to -22 ° C can become fatal for strawberry bushes. Therefore, the autumn preparation of berry plantations must necessarily include protective measures for sheltering and warming plantings for the winter.
